150th Anniversary Orvis Glass Minnow Trap

Handblown and first launched in 1885, the Orvis Glass Minnow Trap sold briskly for more than 80 years. During World War II, the disruption of the saltwater fishing fleet by German U-boats saw a rise in the trapâs orders as traps were used by freshwater fisherman who fished for a living or for sustenance. During the War, the trap played a crucial role in the Orvis Companyâs survival. Now, you can own a 150th Anniversary Orvis Glass Minnow Trap. Crafted right in Manchester, Vermont, the trap is handblown by an artisan who uses traditional techniques and tools that date back to 12th-century Italy. Heated to over 2,000ºF, molten glass is blown into a mold of cherry wood created by a local woodworker. Finishing touches of the signature funnel-shaped opening and 150th anniversary emblem, are then created by hand. A local metal worker crafts the blued, perforated cap and stand. Useful for its original purpose, or for a handsome, sporting or decorative addition to your home or office. Contents shown are not included.

Expertly handmade in the USA of solid alderwood with a handsome "Shaker Cherry" finish. The thoughtful fly tying desk design features a built-in vise clamp and a hole drilled into the work surface to catch waste material in one drawer at the base. The 8"D x 46"W x 14"H hutch has two rows of drawers for fly tying materials, and spindles to hold 42 spools of thread. Hutch is faced with a custom 3½" round ceramic tile with your choice of beautifully-detailed fish paintings by recognized artist Dann Jacobus.
